To begin, we performed competitor and user research to evaluate what features would be expected by the customer at respective price ranges.

Our engineers worked to design a gear and linkage mechanism to flip the food. To prove that the mechanism would function as intended, a proof of concept prototype was produced.

Based on the size constraints of the flipping mechanism and the "expected user features" that were found in the competitive product research, we created a series of aesthetic concepts.

Once the mechanism design was proven and the aesthetic direction was chosen, a detailed design could be completed. A detailed model of the grill with the integrated flipping mechanism was created in CAD.

To evaluate the size, shape, and overall aesthetic of the grill, we created a form study from foam and cardboard.

Detailed drawings of each component on the grill were created and sent to a manufacturer for production. The manufacturer produced the parts and we assisted the customer in assembling the final unit.
