One of the unique challenges of this product was to make the handle easy to grip while maintaining a low profile for comfort.

One of the unique challenges of this product was to make the handle easy to grip while maintaining a low profile for comfort.

Our team worked with HABU to establish the requirements for the advanced charging handle. Then, a preliminary mechanical design was created to work out the components in the system, the overall assembly process, and the user interaction with the design.

Once the initial mechanical design was generated, our team of industrial designers created a series of aesthetic iterations to find a design that would be user-friendly, ergonomic, and blend with the aesthetic of the AR-15.

Prototypes of the initial and refined designs were created to allow for user testing and to verify the design assumptions.

Prototypes of the initial and refined designs were created to allow for user testing and to verify the design assumptions.

The final design was then transferred to manufacturing. We created manufacturing drawing packages that defined critical dimensions, materials, colors, and assembly instructions.
