The Sekstant global guidance system was designed in conjunction with Maersk and Connected Development as a better way to track and monitor refrigerated shipping containers from their initial position all the way to their final destination. This system provides detailed information about the shipping container including location, interior temperature, and if the unit has undergone a shock.

First, we laid out all the major requirements of the project including electronics, environmental, aesthetic, & installation requirements. Then we evaluated several design options for the housing taking into account these requirements. One of those designs was chosen and fleshed out further to identify areas requiring testing and refinement.

Next, the design was further refined and testing was performed. A combination of physical prototypes and digital models were used to evaluate whether or not the design met the requirements for the product.

After the design was fully tested/evaluated, the final design refinements were made to ensure that it was prepared for mass production. At this point, we also created renderings of the unit to be used in print and web marketing for product.

Once the design was finalized, we created detailed drawings of every component in the design as well as assembly instructions so that the design could be smoothly handed off to a manufacturer for long-term production.

Shape of the unit is designed to contour the panel that it mounts to.
Foam pads dampen vibration and keep the unit from rotating once installed
Custom designed nut allows for easy installation and is vibration resistant
Indicator LED is orientated 90 degrees from the front face plate to ensure that the lights don't interfere with other boats navigating the ocean
Material was selected to withstand salt laden air, extreme temperatures, UV exposure, and vibrations.
